Course Overview: 

This two-day course is designed for new and intermediate radio operators who want to develop a strong foundation in radio communications. The first day focuses on theory, best practices, and strategy, while the second day is dedicated to hands-on application and real-world exercises. By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently select, operate, and integrate radios into their personal or team-based operations.

Day 1: Radio Fundamentals, Setup, Diagnostics & Strategic Use

Day 2: Proficiency & Skills, Practical Application & Field Exercise

By the end of this course, participants will:

✔ Understand the core principles of radio communication

✔ Be able to operate a radio effectively in a team setting

✔ Know how to select the right radio for different environments

✔ Have hands-on experience troubleshooting and adapting radio plans

✔ Gain confidence in integrating radios into everyday life and emergency scenarios

Course Requirements & Materials:

• No radio is required for this class, a radio will be lent to you for class use. You may bring your own if you like, although for the purposes of the class we will be training with the provided radios.  

• Notebook and pen for notes

• Laptop or tablet for programming exercises. Windows 10 or 11. (Optional. But, recommended.)

• Weather-appropriate clothing for field exercises

• Water / Electrolytes 

• Basic med kit: To include a tourniquet, compressed gauze, and chest seal
